Biography:

Wooten, Shadrach - (b. 1739; d. Apr 12, 1812) - Buried in Western Prong Baptist Church Cemetery, northern ColumbusCounty.  Cemetery is located a quarter mile from Highway #701, on the west side of the highway, about four and a half miles south of the Bladen-Columbus County line. GPS Coordinates: Latitude: 34.43084, Longitude: -78.73322Originally grave was indicated by a wooden marker, since replaced by a marble tombstone.  Reported by Samuel Johnston and Battle of Elizabethtown Chapters.  Service; Ensign, New Bern Battalion, 5th NC Regiment.  He was a member of Colonel Richard Caswell's NC Rangers during the battle of Moore's Creek Bridge on 27 February 1776.He was appointed Ensign, 5th NC Regiment effective 17 Apr 1776 during the meeting of the Provincial Council of North Carolina at Halifax, NC on 4 April 1776.  (State Regent's Project  Report; NSSAR Membership # 89039, 96976, 98798, 100827 and 100830, NSSAR Patriot & Grave Index Number P 324671)

Patriotic Service Description: Ensign in 5th NC Regiment.  Fought in Battle of Moore's Creek Bridge under Col. Richard Caswell. Took Oath of Allegiance to make land entry in Pitt County, 1778.
