Biography: According to a pension statement dated May 9, 1833, in 1778 al the age of 15 Simon enlisted as a private in the North Carolina Militia under the command of Colonel John Williams. He fought in the Battle of Brier Cheek in Georgia after which he was discharged at Black Swamp near the Savannah River in South Carolina sometime in 1779. |
